Bastille – Joy

Mental Health is spoken about a lot these days.
For many, it’s a real struggle. For others, they seem to have “jumped on the band wagon” and believe a lie about themselves.

But what I am hopeful about is that popular bands like Bastille are addressing the issue.

“Oh Joy, when you call me
I was giving up, oh, I was giving in
Joy, set my mind free
I was giving up, oh, I was giving in”

We can look at the dark and disappointing things. Or we can welcome in Joy.

Read Nehemiah 8:10 (
Hold onto God’s joy. Focus on it. Live in it.

Mumford & Sons – Beloved
This is a sad song. But it’s a song that carries a beautiful reminder:

“Before you leave
You must know you are beloved
And before you leave
Remember I was with you”

When last have you told your mom, dad, brother, or sister that you love them?
Truth is, people won’t always be around. Appreciate the time you have with them – remind them you love them.

And speaking of love. Have you paused to think about how much God loves you? The lyrics of today’s song reminded me of Jeremiah 31:3 (

He loves you not just for a week. His love is everlasting!

Jess Glynne – Thursday
The other day I heard this song, and thought, wow that’s very honest!

Social Media has been around for a long time. And it has sucked most of us in.
The negative side of it is that people feel ugly or not good enough, and through it we live in this world of comparing ourselves. Not content with who we are.

Jess Glynne offers heartfelt lyrics:

“Don’t wanna wake up and feel insecure
I wanna sing, I wanna dance
I wanna feel love inside my hands again
I just wanna feel beautiful”

Do you feel the same?
Read this reminder in Psalm 139:14 (
You ARE beautiful. God made you that way.

Jars of Clay are one of my favourite bands. Here are some lyrics from one of their best songs (I think!):

‘The storm is wild enough for sailing / The bridge is weak enough to cross / This body frail enough for fighting / I’m home enough to know I’m lost’ (Faith Enough)

I love these words cos they remind me that when things in my life are wild, weak and frail God gets to show his strength in me. The chorus ends with the question: ‘should the world rely on faith tonight?’ Yes! Even if our faith in God is small

Are there wild or weak things you need to rely on faith to overcome today?
