If you want your life to have influence and impact, stop keeping score. Rather, lose count. Don’t hold records of who’s on top and where you fall in the scheme of things. It’s far wiser to lose interest in yourself and become very interested in others. Even if you don’t consider yourself to be a people person, be brave to look people in the eye and show kindness, concern or appreciation.

Prefer others whether there’s something in it for you or not. Forgetting about what other people owe you will change the aroma of your life. God will use you ‘to spread the knowledge of Christ everywhere, like a sweet perfume.’ (2 Corinthians 2:14)

Solomon wrote in Ecclesiastes 7:29, ‘This is all that I have learned: God made us plain and simple, but we have made ourselves very complicated.’ So it figures that a wise way to live is to always be on the lookout for ways of simplifying your life.

Ask yourself, ‘What would an uncomplicated life look like? What could simplicity mean, today or this week?’ If less is more, where would you benefit from less of something, to make more time for something else? Less hoarding, more giving? Less TV, more sleep? Less worry, more trust? Less anger, more laughing? Less bitterness, more forgiveness?

Get wise. Simplify.

Maybe the wisest thing you can do today is celebrate someone else. Celebrate what they’ve worked hard to get, or what they’ve been given, or what happy thing has happened to them. Celebrate, because being jealous says more about you than it says about the person you’re jealous of – and it doesn’t say good things.

Being jealous just tells people that you don’t believe your Heavenly Father has good gifts in store for you. Celebrating, on the other hand, shows you trust that He’s got your best interests at heart, and that you aren’t threatened by how He chooses to bless others.

Is there someone you hate being around – because you never know what you’re going to get? Like, they’re impulsive and unpredictable and if they’ve had a bad start to their day, they’re going to make sure the rest of everyone else’s day is horrible too.

You don’t want to be like that, right?

Solomon said, ‘Fools vent their anger, but the wise quietly hold it back.’ (Proverbs 29:11 – http://bit.ly/2hDeNUe) Ask Jesus today to help you and not let circumstances rule your mood and relationships. That means, live from the inside out, not the outside in. Take your emotions along for the ride, but you make sure you’re in the driver’s seat.
