Wisewords From Yoda – Part 2

Wisewords from Yoda – part 2: ‘In this war, a danger there is, of losing who we are.’ (Yoda accent essential).

I remember a school sports war cry that went: ‘Who are, who are, who are we? We are (blah-blah) can’t you see. We are here to win today’

Do you find there’s this constant pressure to strive and achieve, to be the best – in sport, academics, socially – to fit in with ‘the rest’? That can be tough right? Especially when ‘the rest’ aren’t fitting in with Jesus.

Don’t lose who you are or whose you are.

‘How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!’ 1 John 3v1.

15 Year Old Jesus?

What would Jesus be like as a 15-year old at your school? Here are some ideas from the gospels: people loved hanging out with him cos he never made them feel small; he made people who abused their power go crazy cos he wouldn’t play by their rules; he showed great love for everyone he met; he was willing to give up everything for what he believed in; he didn’t care much about his reputation.

What was Jesus’ secret? He told us in John 17v3 – his relationship with his Father. You have the same heavenly Father. Could that truth begin to release you to be a bit more like Jesus in your school today?

Called to be a student?

Here’s some good news for when you’re studying and writing exams: by doing this you are right in the middle of God’s will for your life. God has called you right now to be a student – and to do that as well as you can. By studying you are honouring God and you can totally invite God’s presence into your work space

Here’s part of a really cool ‘exam-prayer’ from long ago:
‘Lord – give me sharpness of mind, capacity to remember, skill in learning, subtlety to interpret, and eloquence in speech’ It’s a prayer God will honour as you study and write this weekend

Reading both God-books

Where’s God when you’re studying bio, history, maths, art,[…] ? Does the work sometimes seem a bit pointless? How about seeing it this way:

‘The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
…their voice goes out into all the earth…’ (Psalm 19v1&4

God has given us a book – the Bible – to know God better, but God has written another ‘book’ – the whole creation: everything that exists, everything that humans have done in history either show us something about God or the Story God is writing.

Ask God to open your eyes to that other ‘book’ as you study – I think you’ll find God has been there all along.
