No matter what crazy idea I have – or what massive or random thing I’m excited about – I know I have a couple of friends who will stop what they’re busy with, give me undivided attention, and get super excited with me.

These are the friends who are happy to see me – whether I’m all dressed up or at home in my stokies.

These friends put the wind back in my sails. They challenge and inspire me to do the same for them, and for others. Because this is how we can be Jesus to people.

Jesus never dampens spirits. He never crushes hope or vision. He only ever encourages and uplifts – and he is always excited when we make time to be with him.

Isaiah’s ancient prophecy in Isaiah 9 is a promise about Jesus – and about peace for broken relationships:

‘Every warrior’s boot used in battle and every garment rolled in blood will be destined for burning,

will be fuel for the fire.’ (Isaiah 9v5)

If you think the God of the Old Testament is only angry and violent this verse should make you think again God’s promise in Jesus is to ultimately destroy the things that create and sustain violence.

Is there unresolved conflict in your life? In Jesus, God offers us the chance to restore the broken relationships in our lives and in the world around us.

Jesus is the Prince of Peace. What would it take to unwrap (or give) the gift of peace this Christmas?

Read Isaiah 9 here:

No one had to teach me to be jealous. It came as naturally as breathing. I wanted her boyfriend, his popularity, someone else’s money or admiration or dress size.

I know for sure that Jesus is into total heart-revolution because when he became my King I no longer had to say ‘Yes sir’ to sin. His love in me took away the sting of envy and taught me to trust him for all I need and celebrate what he does for others.

It’s still tough some days, but it helps to remember that God is in me and God is love …

…and love does not envy

1 Corinthians 13v4 (

Right now you can probably think of someone who is almost always kind to you. And someone else who is almost always NOT. Even the most hard-core among us are in touch enough with our emotions to know how it feels when someone is kind, and when they’re not.

Kindness is powerful because it comes straight from the heart of God. It’s a Jesus-magnet that few people can run from. Today, check your words, your tone, your body language, your facial expressions. Do they mirror the kindness of Christ?

Ask God to make you a safe place for others.

‘Love is… kind.’ (1 Corinthians 13v4 )
