Pray like you mean it

We all struggle in our prayer lives. I’m really selfish and like to pray about all the things that matter in my life like my money and my health and my wife and our future. Jesus gives us a different picture of prayer in Matthew 6:10-15, read it here:

Instead of a focus on ourselves and our needs, look at how much is about God, and others. Maybe today you could follow Jesus’ example of prayer and think less about yourself.

David wrote, ‘As soon as I pray, You answer me.’ (Psalm 138:3) You can face the best of days and the worst of days knowing that, because God never takes His eyes off you, the millisecond you think a prayer, or whisper or sing or cry out to God, He hears you, and He answers. That doesn’t mean He delivers the goods instantaneously or exactly the way you think He should, but He is busy lovingly working out His best plans for you.

If it occurs to you today to reach out to God, don’t put off praying. He longs to hear from you, and He’ll listen and answer without delay.

Human – Christina Perri

But I’m only human, And I bleed when I fall down, I’m only human, And I crash and I break down. These words form part of Christina Perri’s chorus in Human. God created us with humanity. We are people who think, feel, hurt, bleed, get angry, feel joy, excitement, love and passion.

James 5:13-16 shows that we, in our humanity, can represent Jesus through situations and behaviours. If someone is troubled, pray; happy, praise; sick, anoint with oil; sinful, forgiveness. Let these spiritual responses to the human state be your sound track today. Yes, you are human BUT you can represent Jesus in the most human of moments.

Read James 5:13-16:

Don’t worry they say.

Are you kidding?! I have so much going on right now. At least three tests to study for. A project due next week and no one in my group is doing their part. I was dropped from the team, which makes me feel like I’m useless. My hair has a mind of its own this week. And my parents, well, they are getting better and better at not hiding their arguments about the money we don’t have.

You say Lord, “Do not stress. Pray about everything, with thanksgiving. And You will give me peace” Read Philippians 4:6-7 here:

Help me then to pray. I really need that peace.
