Human – Christina Perri

But I’m only human, And I bleed when I fall down, I’m only human, And I crash and I break down. These words form part of Christina Perri’s chorus in Human. God created us with humanity. We are people who think, feel, hurt, bleed, get angry, feel joy, excitement, love and passion.

James 5:13-16 shows that we, in our humanity, can represent Jesus through situations and behaviours. If someone is troubled, pray; happy, praise; sick, anoint with oil; sinful, forgiveness. Let these spiritual responses to the human state be your sound track today. Yes, you are human BUT you can represent Jesus in the most human of moments.

Read James 5:13-16:

Don’t worry they say.

Are you kidding?! I have so much going on right now. At least three tests to study for. A project due next week and no one in my group is doing their part. I was dropped from the team, which makes me feel like I’m useless. My hair has a mind of its own this week. And my parents, well, they are getting better and better at not hiding their arguments about the money we don’t have.

You say Lord, “Do not stress. Pray about everything, with thanksgiving. And You will give me peace” Read Philippians 4:6-7 here:

Help me then to pray. I really need that peace.

Is Praying something you do regularly? Or does it feel like a spiritual chore that you have to do? In 1 Thessalonians 5, we are told:

16Rejoice always,17pray continually,18give thanks in all circumstances;for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

I love how prayer is sandwiched there between rejoicing and giving thanks. When my prayer life starts to feel a little stale I try to remember it is meant to be talking to God. Simply speak out the things on your mind and heart, believing God is listening to them.

It’s #trysomethingnew Friday! No, that doesn’t mean heading off to the mall to find something new to wear this weekend…

Here’s the challenge: try something new in the way you pray.

A new position? Pray on your knees? Or in your garden? Or lying on your back in the shade during break?

Use a verse from the Bible? Open your Bible to the book of Psalms and try praying a few verses from one of them (or try Psalm 100 here

Pray for something else? Are most of your prayers for yourself? Pray for a friend, or a family member, or a situation at school or in the country? Or try praying for an enemy!

Go for it…
