Hidden Figures was an incredible movie that told the less-known story of a few black women who played key roles during the race to land on the moon. This movie reminds us that often we don’t know the whole story.

As followers of Jesus if we only listen to the preach on Sundays and don’t spend time in the Bible we may find that we miss out on the full story. Acts 17:11 (http://bit.ly/2Pk1Ihj) tells a beautiful story of a group called the Bereans who received Paul’s preaching with eagerness but then later checked it with the scriptures. We need to be reading the Bible regularly so that we continue to grow our understanding of the whole story.

Thor: Ragnarok and Guardians of the Galaxy II were two big movies that featured impressive heroes. Individually they were all very powerful. Both movies showed us the possibility that exists in teams. None of the heroes, on their own, were strong enough to defeat the bad guys, but when they united they became unstoppable.

Read 1 Corinthians 12 (http://bit.ly/2PjefBM) to get the full picture, but verse 12 says: “Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its parts form one body, so it is with Christ.” God has given us the church as a gift that together we might achieve more.

Spiderman Homecoming was one of those fun movies. We are introduced to a younger Peter Parker in this version of Spiderman – who is a lot more fun and less serious than previous ones. There is an amazing relationship between Peter and Tony Stark who acts as a father figure and mentor.

Proverbs 16.20 (http://bit.ly/2PiEF6O) tells us ‘Those who listen to instruction will prosper’.

It is usually when Peter ignores the wise voice and tries to do things his own way that trouble follows. Who is a wise leader in your life that you invite to help you make good choices?

A live action version of The Jungle Book came out and dazzled us all. The story of Mowgli, an orphan boy raised by wolves. As Mowgli tries to fit into different animal groups, it’s obvious that he is a human and will always lean towards human things.

This reminds me of one of my favourite verses in Romans 12 (http://bit.ly/2Ph4RP9), ‘we must not conform to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of our minds’. We are born again into a new family, a new way of living and should never quite fit in to the old way of life.
