I recently spent time in the USA, at a Christian conference. There were moments of real connection and belonging, and moments when everyone was staring at the awkward foreign girl (me). One morning in some free time I took a walk through a park alongside a lake. I was totally alone. And yet I realised more fully than ever that I was not – that I am never – alone.

Even in moments of being unknown by others, I am known by the God who never leaves nor forsakes me (Deuteronomy 31:6), and He allows me to know Him in return. Know today that you are known, seen, and wildly loved.

How do I know God loves me?

Everyone knows that “God is love”, but how can I be sure that God loves me? John gives us a very simple answer in his letter 1 John 4:9.

When you doubt God’s love, look to the death of Jesus on the cross for you. When your friends doubt that God loves them, remind them of Jesus’ death on the cross for the whole world. The cross is God’s love letter to the world, there for all to see, forever. God loves us this much, that He would die like a criminal to bring us back into a loving relationship with Him.

God is scary

We love hearing about how good God is and how gracious He is to us, but what we don’t often hear about is how scary He can be.

In Hebrews 12:18-29 the writer reminds us that we’ve been given great privileges through Jesus, but we still need to remember who God is. This morning, remind yourself that Jesus is not just your friend, but your God, and He deserves your worship.
