How many relationships in your life are based on what the other person can get from you or out of you?
There are a whole lot of terms and conditions. And if all these boxes are not ticked, then “Sorry, we can’t be friends” they say.

C.S. Lewis, an Irishman, is remembered as one of the greatest Christian writers from the 20th century. One of his many, many amazing quotes is this, “God doesn’t want something from us. He simply wants us.”

God just wants us, as we are. In fact, He GAVE in order for us to know Him.

How does this change the way you get to know God?

History can be boring – but let’s be honest we learn more from looking back than we do looking forward. John Calvin, a Frenchman, lived in the 16th century. He was one of the great reformers in Christian history – today we would probably refer to him as an influencer. He changed the way people thought about being a Christian and how they understood the Bible.

One of the many things he said was, “Knowing yourself begins with knowing God.”

God made us. He knows the things we don’t even know about ourselves.
Spend time getting to know Him and see what you find out about yourself.

Charles Spurgeon said, “If you wish to know God, you must know His word. If you wish to perceive His power, you must see how He works by His word. If you wish to know His purpose before it comes to pass, you can only discover it by His word.”

Read Psalm 119:9-16 (http://bit.ly/2GyAZKM)

Everything we need to KNOW God, is in His word, the Bible. If you want to get to know His power, see His works, know His purpose – all of this and more will be found in His word.

Read it, think about it, apply it to your life.

J.I. Packer is a British evangelical theologian – he is still alive, he’s 92 years old and became a Christian more than 70 years ago – WOW! He has spent most of his life getting to know God. This is one of his very well-known statements, “There’s a difference between knowing God and knowing about God. When you truly know God, you have energy to serve Him, boldness to share Him, and contentment in Him.”

This quote reminds me of the verse found in John 17:3 – read it here:http://bit.ly/2GxHlu5

Do you just know about God or are you getting to know Him?
