Called to be a student?

,

Here’s some good news for when you’re studying and writing exams: by doing this you are right in the middle of God’s will for your life. God has called you right now to be a student – and to do that as well as you can. By studying you are honouring God and you can totally invite God’s presence into your work space

Here’s part of a really cool ‘exam-prayer’ from long ago:
‘Lord – give me sharpness of mind, capacity to remember, skill in learning, subtlety to interpret, and eloquence in speech’ It’s a prayer God will honour as you study and write this weekend

Reading both God-books

,

Where’s God when you’re studying bio, history, maths, art,[…] ? Does the work sometimes seem a bit pointless? How about seeing it this way:

‘The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
…their voice goes out into all the earth…’ (Psalm 19v1&4 http://bit.ly/16OUg1m)

God has given us a book – the Bible – to know God better, but God has written another ‘book’ – the whole creation: everything that exists, everything that humans have done in history either show us something about God or the Story God is writing.

Ask God to open your eyes to that other ‘book’ as you study – I think you’ll find God has been there all along.

Pure heart, right spirit

,

‘Create in me a pure heart, O God and renew a right spirit within me.’
That is one of David’s great psalm-prayers (Psalm 51v10). It’s an awesome study-and-exam-prayer too.

If our hearts and spirits are in a good place then life becomes SO much better – including our studies. Why don’t you ask God to do that each time you sit down to work or write an exam this week? It’s a prayer right in the center of God’s will for you so be sure God will do it – even if it seems like an impossible thing for you. Try it and see …

Prayer and exams

,

Does your prayer life get a lot more active during exams? You know, like: ‘Dear God, answers please!’ or, ‘please put my parents in a good mood for that report…’

I’m not sure God answers our prayers for divine knowledge the way we’d like but here are some totally legit things you CAN ask God to do: help you study well, resist distractions, think clearly, help you remember the work and not panic in the exam. Most of all that you know his peace, love and presence as you work.

Prayer is no substitute for studying but it connects us to the One who loves knowledge and understanding – and wants us to have that too. So pray lots!
